Doctrinal Statement

We believe that there is one truth, that it is not subjective, and that it has been revealed to us through the Bible, God’s word. We see precedent in scripture for identifying false doctrine and for not associating with those who teach it. That said, we recognize that there are many different local churches and that there is some variation in how they interpret His holy scriptures. Often, these differing views are in areas that scripture just doesn’t explicitly and exhaustively clarify. We will have to wait until we are face to face with our Lord to be fully certain. Regardless of which local church we attend, we understand that all of us who are truly redeemed are called to preserve the unity of the Spirit among us in the bond of peace. That said, we cannot fall into the trap of shrugging our shoulders and tolerating false teaching when scripture calls such teachings “doctrines of demons”. To that end, we must distinguish between critical doctrine on which we must agree and smaller matters where there may be ambiguity or ambivalence.

Critical doctrine

We consider the following to be a critical, core set of beliefs. If we disagree on these points, we cannot work together.

The Bible is our source of truth.

God is one Being who exists in three Persons.

Without God's intervention, we are all stuck in our sin.

Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Our salvation is secure.

Guiding beliefs

In order to be transparent about what we teach and will continue to teach at Growing Church, we would like to clarify our position on a few topics in addition to the critical set above. We recognize that there are very smart people who desperately love Jesus who may see things differently. We love all such believers and acknowledge them as our spiritual brothers and sisters.

His church functions best when it works together.

Men and women have complementary roles.

Creation in six literal days.

Spiritual gifts still exist and aren't chaotic.

Believers should be baptized.

We embrace variety in how we worship.
